MONTROSE – The Grand Junction Tigers stole the show at the Colorado High School Activities Association’s 4A boys golf region 4 regional, earning the team championship by scoring 6-under 207, and placing three golfers in the top four, two of whom scored below par.
Individual champion Ky Korte (6-under 65) and runner-up Jack Kaul (1-under 70) claimed the two top spots on the individual leaderboard for the Tigers, though Hunter Simmons (1-over 72) wasn’t far behind, placing fourth.
Durango (6-over 219) finished runner-up on the team leaderboard, and had all four golfers place inside the top 10. Nolan Pace (even 71) captured third place, Owen Muraro (2-over 73) placed fifth, Drew Jepson (4-over 75) tied for sixth with Summit senior Jace Melby, and Benjamin Ogden (10-over 81) finished in a four-way tie for ninth place.
Tying Ogden were James Greenfield, from Montrose; Kaden Brokaw, from Grand Junction Central; and Jackson Fleckenstein, from Broomfield.
Montrose junior Brandon Blacker (9-over 80) also placed in the top 10, finishing eighth.
CHSAA’s 2024 4A Boys Golf State Championship will be played at Tiara Rado Golf Course in Redlands, on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 7 and 8.
