AURORA – Over the course of the last four days, boys tennis teams across the state of Colorado have been competing in the Colorado High School Activities Association’s individual regional championships to secure a spot in next week’s Boys Tennis Individual State Championships. In addition, team points were re-introduced during the individual regionals to be able to crown Team Regional Champions.
In 5A, six of the eight regional champions – Cherry Creek, Fort Collins, Fossil Ridge, Mountain Vista, Regis Jesuit and Valor Christian – advanced all seven lines to next week’s individual state championships, while Arapahoe and Cherokee Trail both won its regional title and will send six lines to the individual state championships. The 5A Boys Tennis Individual State Championships will be played Thursday through Saturday at Denver Tennis Park in Denver.
In 4A, Air Academy, Colorado Academy, D’Evelyn, George Washington, Kent Denver and Vail Christian all claimed regional titles and advanced all seven lines to the individual state championships. Coronado advanced six lines and capture the Region 7 title, while Niwot won Region 5 and advanced four lines to next week. The 4A Boys Tennis Individual State Championships will be played Thursday through Saturday at Pueblo City Park in Pueblo.
In total, 21 schools advanced all seven lines to next week’s individual state championships. In 5A, Arvada West, Boulder, Fairview and Heritage will join the six regional champions with all seven lines advancing, while Cheyenne Mountain, Grand Junction, Mullen, Peak to Peak and Thomas Jefferson all qualified seven lines to the individual championships.
The top-two players/doubles teams in each position automatically qualified for next week’s Boys Tennis Individual State Championships. The brackets for the Boys Tennis Individual State Championships will be released tomorrow with all individual qualifiers listed here.
The team state champion will be determined through the Boys Tennis Dual Team State Championship. Play in those brackets started earlier in October with the semifinals being scheduled for this Tuesday and the state championship matches set for Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Denver Tennis Park. The 5A championship match is set for 9:45 a.m., with the 4A match following at 12:45 p.m.
