AURORA — The opening round of the 4A boys lacrosse state tournament began Tuesday.
Notable games saw No. 12 Middle Park edge No. 21 Mullen 9-8, and No. 14 Vail Mountain hold off No. 19 Windsor 11-10.
Also Tuesday, No. 9 Steamboat Springs beat No. 24 Confier, 16-3; No. 10 Fruita Monument defeated No. 23 Prairie View, 10-3; and No. 11 Battle Mountain topped No. 22 Durango 17-4; No. 16 Green Mountain beat No. 17 Glenwood Springs, 14-10; and No. 18 Lutheran held off No. 15 Pueblo West, 11-6. On Wednesday, No. 13 Cheyenne Mountain defeated No. 20 Holy Family 14-6.
In second-round games scheduled for Friday, No. 1 Aspen plays No. 16 Green Mountain; No. 2 Dakota Ridge will play No. 18 Lutheran; No. 3 Evergreen plays No. 14 Vail Mountain; No. 4 Air Academy squares off with No. 13 Cheyenne Mountain; No. 5 Resurrection Christian takes on No. 12 Middle Park; No. 6 Golden Plays No. 11 Battle Mountain; No. 7 Telluride takes on No. 10 Fruita Monument; and No. 8 Grand Junction faces No. 9 Steamboat Springs.
The first round of the 5A tournament starts Wednesday.
