Baseball: 2025 State Championship Matchups Set for Saturday

AURORA – The matchups for the final round of the 2025 Baseball State Championships for 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A are now set, with the championship game(s) being played Saturday at four sites across the state.

Three sixth-seeded teams won twice Friday to stay alive and advance to the championship and would need to win twice again Saturday to become state champions. The teams are No. 6 Regis Jesuit in 5A, No. 6 Cheyenne Mountain in 4A and No. 6 Denver Christian in 2A. Also advancing to the final round is No. 1 University in 3A.

Teams that have yet to lose in the tournament would need just one win Saturday and are No. 2 Cherry Creek in 5A, No. 3 Golden in 4A, No. 2 Coal Ridge in 3A and No. 1 Forge Christian in 2A.

5A Championship Teams

  • No. 2 Cherry Creek is seeking to repeat as state champion, which would give the Bruins 10 baseball state championships (fourth-most in state history) while extending their state-leading record of state championships to 248 for all sports. Cherry Creek has defeated No. 7 Rocky Mountain 3-0, No. 6 Regis Jesuit 4-3 and No. 1 Grandview 7-1.
  • No. 6 Regis Jesuit, runner-up to Cherry Creek last year, has three state baseball championships, with the last coming in 2019. The Raiders have won 75 state championships as a school. Regis Jesuit beat No. 3 Arvada West 11-5 before losing a state-championship rematch against No. 2 Cherry Creek 4-3 on May 23, then recovered for 9-7 win over No. 8 Castle View in a May 24 elimination game. The Raiders then beat No. 5 Broomfield 6-4 and No. 1 Grandview 2-1 on Friday, giving them three straight elimination game wins.

4A Championship Teams

  • No. 3 Golden, which was runner-up in 2023, is seeking to win its second-ever baseball title, having also won in 2003. The Demons have five all-time championships as a school. Golden went 3-0 for the weekend, beating No. 6 Cheyenne Mountain 7-4, No. 2 Falcon 13-6 and No. 4 Windsor 12-11.
  • No. 6 Cheyenne Mountain has six baseball state championships to its credit, with the last coming in 2011, and the Red-Tailed Hawks have 118 all-time state titles as a school. They lost to No. 3 Golden 7-4 in the May 23 tournament opener but advanced with two elimination-game victories on May 24 — 9-1 over No. 7 Durango and 14-2 over No. 1 Pueblo County. Then on Friday, Cheyenne Mountain earned two more wins, beating No. 5 Palisade 5-3 and No. 3 Windsor 5-2.

3A Championship Teams

  • No. 1 University is looking to break through after finishing as the runner-up in each of the last three state tournaments and add to its all-time total of five baseball crowns, the last of which came in 2019. As a school, the Bulldogs have 28 state championships. University beat No. 8 Valley 5-4 and No. 4 Resurrection Christian 5-2 on May 23 before dropping a 3-0 decision to No. 2 Coal Ridge on May 24. In their lone game Friday, the Bulldogs beat Resurrection Christian again, this time 4-1.
  • No. 2 Coal Ridge has never won a state title in baseball or in any other boys sport but is on the brink of doing so now, having beaten No. 7 Delta 11-5 and No. 3 Eaton 8-0 on May 23 and then topping No. 1 University 3-0 on May 24. The Titans have nine all-time state championships, eight in spirit and one in girls track (2021).

2A Championship Teams

  • No. 1 Forge Christian has won three state baseball championships, the last in 2016, and 32 championships overall, including 23 by boys teams. The Fury opened the tournament May 23 with wins of 10-5 over No. 8 Monte Vista and 9-1 over No. 5 Highland before May 24’s 10-0 victory over No. 7 Platte Valley.
  • No. 6 Denver Christian is the two-time defending state champion and has won four baseball championships in all. As a school, the Thunder have 31 championships, including 18 by boys. Denver Christian fell 2-0 to No. 3 on May 23, but won twice in May 24 elimination games — 6-3 over No. 2 Dayspring Christian Academy and 13-9 over No. 5 Highland. Its streak of elimination-game wins is now at four following Friday’s victories of 12-2 over No. 8 Monte Vista and 1-0 over No. 7 Platte Valley.
