AURORA – Over the course of the last year, the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) has been working on establishing a more formalized job structure and process designed to intentionally support professional growth and advancement within the organization.
With the work completed, CHSAA Commissioner Mike Krueger is excited to announce the promotion of seven employees, all effective July 1: Jenn Roberts-Uhlig to Associate Commissioner, Sarah Vernon-Brunner to Chief Financial Officer, Cathy Lenz-Higgins to Senior Executive Assistant to the Commissioner, and Laikyn Crane, Audra Peterson-Cathy, Monica Tillman and Sandra Williamson to Senior Coordinators of Sport.
“It’s an incredible honor to work with such a dedicated and talented team, many of whom have served for more than a decade, with some reaching over 20 years of service,” Krueger said. “For the first time in our history, our job structure allows us to recognize not only their years of servant leadership, but also the growth they’ve shown through experience, education, and an unwavering commitment to our mission.”
With the new structure in place, in addition to having Assistant/Associate Commissioners and Coordinators of Sports, CHSAA has expanded the path between the two to include Senior Coordinator of Sports and Director of Sports to allow for more job growth and advancement within the association.
“What makes this moment so meaningful isn’t just the change in titles, it’s what those titles represent,” Krueger continued. “They reflect real growth, hard work, and a deep belief in the values we uphold as an association. I’m so proud to work alongside such a caring and capable team of leaders. Being able to celebrate their journeys and honor the impact they’ve made on our schools, students, and communities is truly special, because they are truly special.”
Roberts-Uhlig has been with CHSAA for 13 years. In addition to being responsible for boys and girls cross country, gymnastics, unified bowling, spirit, and girls and boys track and field, she also oversees the Sports Medicine Advisory Committee, CHSAA’s service provider partnerships, Women in Leadership with fellow-Associate Commissioner Bethany Brookens, and is the liaison to the state Athletic Directors Association.
Vernon-Brunner has spent 4.5 years with CHSAA, where she handles the day-to-day financial operations of the association, as well as the budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for the association, in addition to human resource related duties.
Lenz-Higgins has served as the executive assistant to the commissioner for the last seven years. In her role, she manages the logistics for each of the Legislative Council meetings and the Board of Directors, while serving as the right hand of the Commissioner.
Crane (4.5 years at CHSAA), Peterson-Cathy (13 years at CHSAA), Tillman (20 years at CHSAA) and Williamson (10 years at CHSAA) will take on additional duties and leadership as Senior Coordinators. They will continue to play a vital role in the administration of their sports alongside their Assistant/Associate Commissioners.
