AURORA — Eaglecrest, Valor Christian and Brush are the No. 1 seeds in the regional softball brackets, which were released on Monday morning.

All three teams held the top spot in their respective class in the final RPI standings of the regular season.

The full brackets are available here:

Eaglecrest is 18-1 this season. The Raptors will host a Region 1 that has the defending champion, Cherokee Trail (No. 16). Also in the region are No. 32 Denver East and No. 17 Mountain Vista.

Eaglecrest is bolstered by a powerful lineup led by senior Kailey Wilson.

Also hosting in 5A are Brighton, Arvada West, Legacy, Prairie View, Fossil Ridge, Columbine and Rock Canyon.

    (Matt Mathewes/MVPSportsPics.com)

Valor Christian, top-seeded in 4A, will be looking for it’s fourth-straight title. The undefeated Eagles will host No. 32 Mesa Ridge, No. 16 Mountain View and No. 17 Cheyenne Mountain in Region 1.

Valor Christian’s undefeated run has come behind a special season in the circle by senior Ali Kilponen. In 112 innings, Kilponen has a 0.38 earned run average. She has allowed just six earned runs all season.

Other hosts in 4A include Pueblo West, Golden, Discovery Canyon, Erie, Pueblo Central, Thomas Jefferson and Frederick.

In 3A, Brush sits at the top. The Beetdiggers will host in Region 1.

Brush’s Kamryn Leoffler is hitting .515 with 11 doubles and 14 RBIs.

Other hosts include Eaton, Strasburg, Lamar, Faith Christian, defending champion Rocky Ford, Limon and Meeker.

The regional softball slate begins on Oct. 14.

  • Softball roundup: Lamar, Brush come away with 3A top-10 wins

No. 5 Lamar softball is riding a five game winning streak at the right time of the season.

Lamar scored six runs in the second inning, then added four in the sixth to beat No. 4 Rocky Ford 11-8. The win gives Lamar its fifth win in a row heading into the final game of the season.

Lamar is now 10-1 in Class 3A’s District 2.

This is the second time Lamar has beat Rocky Ford this season. Lamar took a 6-1 win the first meeting.

Lamar senior Haleigh Prosser is hitting .542 with 22 runs-batted-in and eight doubles.

No. 3 Brush softball beats No. 7 University

In a rematch of an extra-inning Brush win last Thursday, the Beetdiggers took care of University in easier fashion.

Brush beat University 7-3 to cap a 16-3 season.

In the game earlier this season, Brush used four runs in the top of the ninth to edge University.

Brush is currently in second place of 3A’s District 3, but with Eaton playing Strasburg on Saturday, there is a possibility of a three-way tie at the top of the standings.

Should Eaton beat Strasburg, the Reds would move to 12-2 in league. Strasburg, after the loss, and Brush would also be 12-2 in league.

  • Softball roundup: No. 3 Brush ends No. 1 Strasburg’s 62-league game winning streak

All good things must come to an end.

That’s what happened on Tuesday as sophomore Brooklynn Cox scored a run and drove in a run to help Class 3A No. 3 Brush beat No. 1 Strasburg 3-1.

It wasn’t just any loss for the Indians. Tuesday marked the end of a league game winning streak that had gone on for 62 games.

It also puts the Beetdiggers (13-2 overall, 9-1 3A District 3) in control of the league standings. At least for now.

The win was anything but easy for Brush. The Indians (10-4, 8-1) held the Beetdiggers to just three hits on the day. Fortunately for Tom Odle’s crew, two of them were doubles.

Hailey Unrein was solid on the mound for Brush. She gave up eight hits, but the defense held tough behind her and she allowed just one earned run.

Strasburg won the first meeting of these two teams 11-1 and they will not play again before the end of the regular season.

  • Boys golf roundup: Lamar’s Brock Reedy holds steady to claim Burlington Invitational

Lamar teammates Brock Reedy and James Clark were able to separate themselves from the pack and battle it out for the individual win at Tuesday’s Burlington Invitational.

Reedy made par on two of his final four holes to finished the day shooting an eight-over-par 78 to claim the victory.

Having the top two golfers on the leaderboard also made it easy for the Savages to bring home the team win. They shot 41-over as a team, 13 strokes better than second place Brush.

Caridi’s run of birdies gets him a Front Range League win

Josh Caridi’s bogey on the long par-three 15th hole moved him to two-over during Thursday’s Front Range League match. He went on to birdie his final four holes to end the day with a 69, making the Fossil Ridge senior the only golfer to shoot under par (71) at the tournament.

Caridi had been even or over par for 16 of his 18 holes. He didn’t get into red numbers until he made birdie on No. 18, his 17th hole of the day.

The Sabercats also won the team battle, collectively going 18-over.
