Eagle Valley boys golf won a Fuel Up With Milk grant.
After 112 years, golf is again an Olympic sport. Before that, it was part of the program only in Paris in 1900 and St Louis in 1904.
It is not only a historic time for golf worldwide, but also for the Eagle Valley golf team who are one of the winners of a Fuel Up with Milk Grant from Western Dairy!
The Eagle Valley golf team consists of 29 teammates which is the largest team in Eagle Valley school history who call themselves “Team Chocolate Milk.”
“Not only are they (the team) really excited about being one of the winners, but other teams and coaches have been chasing me down after tournaments to ask about our banner and cooler and, of course, if we have more chocolate milk!” said Coach Tom Buzbee.
Even though the season is half over, the team is getting educated on the importance of fueling their bodies with nutritious chocolate milk. Prior to winning this grant, it was tradition to stop for breakfast during early morning departures and the number pick for everyone has always been chocolate milk.
This team is well aware of how to fuel their bodies for ample energy and how to recover correctly. We wish the Eagle Valley Golf team much success this season!

Chatfield volleyball is No. 1 in 5A. (Dennis Pleuss/Jeffco Athletics)
A trio of new teams are taking over No. 1 spots in the CHSAANow.com volleyball rankings this week.
With plenty of changeover in the Class 2A poll, Paonia comes in as the new top team. The Eagles have not dropped a set yet and cruised to a 2-0 start.
Dayspring Christian jumped three spots to No. 5, but it was the bottom of the poll that showed the most change.
Highland (No. 7), John Mall (No. 8), Simla (No. 9) and Telluride (No. 10) are all new to the 2A rankings, showing that a title run in that class could be wide open come November.
The same theory could hold true for 5A. Chatfield comes in as the new No. 1 team, jumping two spots in the process.
Despite a five-set loss to Cheyenne Mountain, Caparral jumps from No. 2 to No. 6.
Three new teams broke into the 5A rankings with Highlands Ranch landing at No. 5, Mountain Vista coming in at No. 8 and Lakewood breaking in at No. 9.
Cheyenne Mountain and Lewis-Palmer hang on to the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in the 4A poll.
Holy Family notched the biggest jump of the week, leaping three spots to land at No. 5.
At No. 10, Eagle Valley is the only new team to the 4A poll.
Only one team broke into the 3A rankings as well as Middle Park comes in at No. 10. Resurrection Christian made a big jump to land at No. 4 this week. The Cougars were sitting at No. 9 in the preseason rankings.
Eaton holds on to the top spot in 3A.
Kit Carson takes over the No. 1 spot in 1A thanks to a 2-0 start. Previous No. 1 Fleming is also undefeated on the year, but dropped one spot to No. 2.
Weldon Valley (No. 4) and McClave (No. 10) are the two newcomers to the 1A poll.
The rankings, voted upon by coaches and select media members, are the official polls of the Association. Polls are released each Monday.
Voted upon by coaches and media members around the state. New voters can sign up by emailing rcasey@chsaa.org. These rankings have no bearing on postseason seeding.

ENGLEWOOD — He’ll probably remember this one for a bit.
Kent Denver coach Scott Yates tied Colorado high school football’s all-time winning record on Friday evening with his 306th career victory after his team’s dramatic 18-8 victory over Eagle Valley.
“Just a bunch of great kids. Bunch of great kids,” a reflective Yates said afterward. “I’ve been blessed to be at a great place. I mean, I can’t say a whole lot more than that.
“These kids have a lot of heart, they can play, and we kind of stole that game at the end. But that’s kind of been the way it’s been here, a lot. That other stuff (like records), that’s for bean-counters to worry about. To see how those kids grew in that game, that’s what you really do it for.”
(Ryan Casey/CHSAANow.com)
It was a milestone made sweet by the manner in which it was done. Kent Denver, stymied by Eagle Valley most of the game, scored a go-ahead touchdown with 40 seconds left to snatch the record on a day when it looked like the Sun Devils might be beaten.
They sealed the game with a pick-six from Will Morland in the final moments. It was Morland’s second defensive touchdown of the day.
“Just knowing how long coach Yates has been at this, and having an opportunity to play for him, and give him this particular win — especially in the manner that we did it — was absolutely amazing,” said junior linebacker/running back Josh McDonald.
Yates started coaching the Sun Devils in 1981. He was asked afterward if he a milestone like this ever even entered his mind at that time.
“No,” he said after a brief pause. “No, no. Not even close.”
Yates entered the season with 304 career victories, two behind the mark of 306 held by longtime Denver East and Machebeuf coach Pat Panek, and current West Grand coach Chris Brown. Yates’ Sun Devils opened with a 44-0 win against Prospect Ridge Academy in Zero Week to inch him closer to the mark.
Ten minutes after the final whistle sounded on Kent’s win Friday, Brown and West Grand kicked off their season against Sanford in Kremmling. Yates and Brown spoke before the season, and he knew West Grand was about the play.
“I hope he breaks it,” Yates said of the record. “That’d be good for him.”
ENGLEWOOD — Kent Denver football beat Eagle Valley 18-8 to help coach Scott Yates win his 306th career game — which is tied for the most in state history as of Friday evening.
