  • Chacon comes up big as No. 1 University baseball beats No. 2 Eaton in extras

    University Lamar baseball
    (Dan Mohrmann/CHSAANow.com)

When defending Class 3A champion University needed someone to come up big, Andre Chacon had no problem answering the call.

Chacon drove in the game-winning run as the No. 1 Bulldogs beat No. 2 Eaton 5-4 in a Patriot League thriller on Saturday.

The Reds had taken a 3-0 lead after the first inning but University pulled ahead after scoring a pair of runs in both the third and fifth innings.

Eaton tied the game in the top of the seventh and turned to Dalton Logan to hold the Bulldogs off in the bottom of the inning. He replaced Jared Ure, who went strong innings.

Logan held University to nothing in the seventh, but Chacon ultimately provided the game-winning hit in the bottom of the eighth.
