  • Boys soccer rankings: The Classical Academy on top of 4A

The Classical Academy has taken over the top spot of the Class 4A CHSAANow.com soccer rankings. Broomfield and Kent Denver held on to their respective No. 1 positions in 5A and 3A.

The Titans came into the season with more returning talent than any team in 4A and have had their sights set on a state championship since day one. It appears that an early-season loss to Cheyenne Mountain hasn’t fazed them and they are now regarded as the top team in the state.

Also in 4A, Battle Mountain joined the rankings at No. 7 and Skyline made a jump from No. 5 to No. 2.

In 5A, Monarch (No. 6) and Cherry Creek (No. 10) join the rankings this week. Fairview made an impress jump from No. 6 to No. 2 and are barking at the heels of their area rival, Broomfield, for the top spot.

DSST-Stapleton and Fountain Valley are both back in the 3A top 10 after dropping out in recent weeks.

KIPP, Liberty Common and Vail Mountain each jumped three spots to land at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.

The rankings, voted upon by coaches and select media members, are the official polls of the Association. Polls are released each Monday during the regular season.

Complete rankings for each class are below.

  • Boys soccer rankings: Kent Denver back on top of 3A

    Kent Denver boys soccer
Kent Denver has returned to the No. 1 spot in Class 3A boys soccer. (Ryan Casey/CHSAANow.com)

Kent Denver has regained the top spot of the Class 3A CHSAANow.com boys soccer rankings after relinquishing the spot last week.

The Sun Devils regained their position thanks to a 10-0 win over Bishop Mechebeuf on Friday.

Boulder remained in the top spot in 5A after playing their way into that ranking last week. Two new teams joined the 5A poll as Rampart made an impressive jump up to No. 6 and Arapahoe earned enough points to take over the No. 10 spot.

Evergreen hangs on to the No. 1 spot in 4A thanks to outscoring opponents 5-0 last week. Like 5A, two new teams joined the 4A poll as Skyline comes in at No. 6 with Skyview landing at No. 10.

Along with Kent Denver regaining the No. 1 spot in 3A, Jefferson Academy and Colorado Academy each jumped four spots with the Jaguars coming in at No. 4 and the Mustangs climbing to No. 5.

Vail Mountain is the lone newcomer to the 3A rankings at No. 9 this week.

The rankings, voted upon by coaches and select media members, are the official polls of the Association. Polls are released each Monday during the regular season.

  • Skyline football hires Mike Silva as coach

Skyline football has hired Mike Silva as its next football coach, according to Falcons athletic director Michael Green.

Silva has been an assistant at Silver Creek for the past six seasons, and was a member of the staff when the Raptors won the Class 3A championship in 2012, and finished as runner-up in 3A in 2013. He was also the head wrestling coach at Silver Creek.

Silva is a graduate of Skyline.

“He has been an integral part of the Silver Creek program for the past six years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Skyline,” Green wrote in an email. “We are excited to announce his hiring and are looking forward to the future of Skyline football.”

Skyline, a 4A program, went 2-8 last season under former coach Kevin Rice, who was 16-63 in eight seasons at the school.
