  • 5A girls tennis state tournament results

    Draws for the Class 5A girls tennis state tournament, held May 7-9 at Gates Tennis Center in Denver, are below.

    All matches start at 9 a.m. each day. The first two rounds at each position will be played Thursday. Friday morning will be all semifinals, and the playback matches will start immediately afterwards. All third- and fourth-place matches and finals will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning.

    Should weather intervene, check CHSAANow.com for contingency plans.

    These results will be updated throughout the tournament.

    Information on the state tournament and draw creation

    Only those teams who qualify four or more positions to state are eligible for the CHSAA state team championship title. The bracket creation process is as follows:

    1. All 16 individuals/teams will be considered for placement on the draw.
    2. The top 4 individuals/teams will be placed.
    3. The committee shall consider the following factors (in no particular order of importance): strength of league, overall record, strength of competition, head-to-head competition and common opponents.
    4. The remaining Regional Winners (#1’s) will be randomly drawn for places on the draw.
    5. The Regional Finishers (#2’s) will then be randomly drawn for matches against a Regional Winner.
    6. All Regional Winners will be paired against a Regional Finishers.
    7. No two teams or individuals from the same Region will play each other during the first round of the state championship.

    The 2015 state tournament bracket for Class 5A girls soccer is below.

  • Photos: Egan leads No. 6 Mountain Range boys hoops over No. 11 Pine Creek

    WESTMINSTER — Senior Ben Egan scored 23 points as No. 6 seed Mountain Range boys basketball beat No. 11 seed Pine Creek in the first round of the Class 5A tournament on Wednesday.

    Mountain Range used a 22-point fourth quarter to keep the Eagles at bay.

    Egan led the Mustangs in assists with five and steals with four. He was one of four Mustangs in double figures, with Andrew Romero III’s 16 points, James Potter’s 11 points and Max Castillo’s 10 points.

    Mountain Range will travel to No. 3 seed Chaparral for the second round, Saturday at 2 p.m.

  • Photos: McCabe leads Mountain Vista girls hoops over Mountain Range

    HIGHLANDS RANCH — Molly McCabe scored 22 points and had seven rebounds to lead No. 5 Mountain Vista to a 82-36 win over No. 12 Mountain Range in the first round of the Class 5A girls basketball tournament on Tuesday.

    Paige Keller added 14 points, eight rebounds and six steals; Chelsea Pearson had 11 points; and Kirsten Burr scored 10.

  • Mountain Range names Donnalley new football coach

    Kevin Donnalley, an assistant on Mountain Range’s football staff the past two seasons, has been named the school’s head coach going forward.

    The news was announced on the team’s official website.

    Donnalley coached defensive backs for the Mustangs, who went 0-10 in Class 5A last season. He takes over for Bryan Davey, who was 25-36 in six seasons. That included a 9-2 season in 2013.

    Donnalley played college football on at North Dakota State, then was a seventh-round pick of the NFL’s St. Louis Cardinals in 1981.

    He got his coaching start as a defensive backs coach at North Dakota State after he finished playing, and was also an assistant at Montana State. Later, he was the head coach at Fort Lewis, a Division II program.

    His arrival at Mountain Range in 2013 marked his return to coaching after a 15-year hiatus.
