  • Fort Morgan, Olathe move into wrestling rankings

    Fort Morgan has joined this week’s wrestling rankings from On The Mat. The Mustangs are now No. 10 in Class 4A.

    Elsewhere, Olathe joined the 3A ranking at No. 6, and Pine Creek moved up to No. 3 in 5A.

    Each of the No. 1 teams stayed put: Arvada West (5A), Thompson Valley (4A), Brush (3A) and Paonia (2A).

  • Rocky Mountain moves to No. 6 in 5A wrestling rankings

    Rocky Mountain is up to No. 6 in this week’s On The Mat wrestling rankings. The Lobos jumped up from No. 8 in Class 5A.

    The week’s other big mover was Norwood/Nucla, which moved from No. 5 to No. 3 in Class 2A.

    As they have over recent weeks, the No. 1 teams all stayed put. Those are Arvada West (5A), Thompson Valley (4A), Brush (3A) and Paonia (2A).

    BROOMFIELD — Brenna Fankell led the way with 19 points as No. 2 Broomfield handled No. 9 Mountain Range in a Class 5A girls basketball matchup on Tuesday.

  • Denver East, Mountain Range added to 5A girls basketball ranking

    Denver East and Mountain Range have entered the Class 5A girls basketball rankings from CHSAANow.com this week.

    The Angels are ranked No. 8, while the Mustangs are No. 9.

    ThunderRidge remained atop the 5A poll, with Broomfield jumping up to No. 2. Highlands Ranch stayed at No. 3, with Gradview dropping to No. 4. Monarch rounds out the top five.

    Each of the other No. 1 teams also stayed put: Valor Christian (4A), Sterling (3A), Yuma (2A) and Kit Carson (1A).

    Newcomers to 4A include No. 6 Evergreen (9-1) and No. 10 Glenwood Springs (8-2). The 2A poll added Sanford at No. 10, while 1A added Genoa-Hugo (No. 7) and Plateau Valley (No. 10).

    The rankings, voted upon by coaches and select media members, are the official polls of the Association. Polls are released each Monday.

  • Photos: Monarch boys basketball wins Prairie View Tournament

    HENDERSON — Monarch boys basketball built a big lead at halftime, then held on for a 43-40 win over Mountain Range to capture the Prairie View Tournament on Saturday.

    The Coyotes led 31-16 at the break, and 39-20 after three quarters, then survived an onslaught in the final frame to win.

    Monarch is now 9-1 this season.
