The Chargers moved up from No. 3 and received seven of the 15 first-place votes. They had 131 total points to top the ranking.
A total of six teams got first-place votes, including former No. 1 ThunderRidge, which dropped to No. 6 following its loss to Mountain Vista last week.
Fairview got two of those first-place votes and is No. 2 this week. Columbine, which plays Chatfield on Wednesday, is third, and Regis Jesuit is fourth. Mountain Vista rounds out the top five.
After ThunderRidge, Arapahoe is seventh and Ralston Valley is eighth. Chaparral is No. 9 this week, and Rocky Mountain is No. 10.
The 4A ranking also got a new No. 1 team this week when Windsor overtook Montrose. The Wizards received six of the 13 first-place votes, and had 115 overall points.
Montrose dropped to second this week, and is followed by No. 3 Niwot. Wheat Ridge bumped up one place to No. 4, while Lewis-Palmer is No. 5 after 3-0 week which included a win over then-No. 10 Palmer Ridge on Saturday.

Fairview climbs to No. 4 in latest 5A baseball ranking

Fairview, and shortstop Cameron Frazier (3) are No. 4 in this week’s 5A baseball poll. (Dennis Pleuss) Perhaps no win was bigger for Fairview in recent years than last Thursday’s decision over then-No. 5 Rocky Mountain.
But the win for the Knights was just one-fourth a tough 4-0 week last week, and now they find themselves ranked No. 4 in this week’s CHSAANow.com Class 5A baseball poll. Fairview was seventh last week.
The Knights are actually 7-0 in Colorado, with the lone loss coming in Arizona during a Spring Break tournament. Their lineup has produced double-digit scoring outputs the past four games.
ThunderRidge remained in its top spot in the 5A ranking, where it has been since the preseason. Regis Jesuit stayed at No. 2, and Chatfield held firm at No. 3.
Behind Fairview, Columbine rounds out the top five.
Ralston Valley is No. 6, Mountain Vista is No. 7 and Arapahoe is No. 8. Rocky Mountain dropped to No. 9 after going 1-2 last week.
Chaparral is the lone newcomer to 5A this week. The Wolverines rejoined the poll at No. 10.
Elsewhere, Swink took over the top spot in the 2A ranking. At 9-0, Swink moved up from No. 2. Former No. 1 Resurrection Christian dropped to No. 3.
The 2A poll added Kiowa (No. 8) this week.
The other No. 1 teams remained the same. Those are Montrose (4A), Holy Family (3A) and Stratton (1A).
The 4A poll has two new teams this week: Wheat Ridge, which joined all the way at No. 5, and Elizabeth, which is No. 7.
3A added No. 9 Brush, while 1A added No. 6 Briggsdale.
Complete rankings for all classes are below.

Four teams join new-look 5A baseball ranking

Chatfield joined the 5A baseball ranking at No. 6 this week. (Pam Wagner) Just as seemingly the entire classification heads out of state for spring break tournaments, the Class 5A baseball rankings got a facelift. Four new teams joined CHSAANow.com’s poll this week, and others made big jumps.
Chatfield (No. 6), Columbine (No. 7), Arapahoe (No. 8) and Fairview (No. 10) all joined the 5A poll. The teams are a combined 11-1 to start the season.
ThunderRidge continued to lead that 5A poll, following an 8-7 win over then-No. 3 Grandview at Coors Field last week.
No. 2 Rocky Mountain also got a win at Coors Field last week, beating then-No. 7 Chaparral. The Lobos stayed put in second. Behind them, though, the change started.
Ralston Valley moved up three places from No. 6 to No. 3, and Regis Jesuit bumped up one spot to No. 4. Grandview rounds out the top five.
Three of the four newcomers are next, and then Cherry Creek is No. 9 after a tough 0-2 week. Fairview rounds up the top 10.
The change didn’t stop with 5A. In 4A, Montrose took over the top spot following its win over Valor Christian on Friday. Valor, last week’s No. 1 team, fell to No. 3. Windsor, 5-0 to start the season, is No. 2.
The 4A ranking added No. 7 Delta, No. 8 Niwot and No. 9 Palmer Ridge this week.
The No. 1 teams stayed the same in 3A (Holy Family), 2A (Resurrection Christian) and 1A (Stratton).
The 3A poll added No. 7 University and No. 8 The Classical Academy.
Teams Nos. 8-10 are all new in 2A: Peyton, Hotchkiss and Ignacio.
The lone newcomer to the 1A ranking was No. 9 Weldon Valley.
Because of the large number of out-of-state games this week, and thus, a lack of in-state competition, there won’t be new baseball polls until April 7.
Complete rankings for all classes are below.

3A football roundup: Coronado, Silver Creek will play for title
Coronado stopped The Classical Academy’s two-point conversion attempt with 20 seconds to play and held on for a 28-27 win in the Class 3A football semifinals on Saturday.
TCA quarterback Jantzen Ryals stepped up and found Jake Frankmore for the game’s final score with 20.3 seconds remaining. That made it 28-27. The Titans faked the ensuing extra point, with Ryals, the holder, simply standing up and turning it into a shotgun snap. Ryals scrambled to his right but was stopped two yards short of the goal-line.
“Fortunately, we’ve been talking to our team about potential trick plays, and we called it right on time,” Coronado coach Bobby Lizzarraga told ColoradoPreps.com’s Scoreboard Show on Saturday. “Our corner stayed outside, and he was there to defend it.”
“That’s a gutsy call that you have to make in that time,” Lizzarraga added. “And my hat’s off to (TCA) coach (David) Bervig for giving it a shot. It was well-executed, except they didn’t finish it because we were waiting on it. But definitely a gutsy call.”
Coronado got 144 yards and two touchdowns from running back Isaah Duvall. Corbin Bender also had a rushing touchdown, while quarterback Joah Smith hit Sam Smith for a passing score.
In the locker room after the game, Lizzarraga said, there were “tears of happiness.”
“Our boys are so proud of the things they’ve done,” he said. “Hopefully they’ll be even prouder of what they’re about to do. At least we have a shot at it.”
Ryals had two touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss for TCA. Peter Troupe rushed for two scores.
Coronado was 0-10 two years ago.
“The bottom line is, it’s hard work,” Lizzarraga said. “These young men have worked so, so hard. For the majority of the teams we have seen, we have been in better condition, which pays off in the fourth quarter for us. … These young men are driven. It’s a special group. The coaches are outstanding.”
Coronado will face Silver Creek, which topped Delta 28-17 in the semifinals. The Raptors led 14-10 at half, but had to rally from a 17-14 hole in the third quarter.
“Our defense hung in there for us. They kept making some plays, and kept the score close,” Silver Creek coach Mike Apodaca told the scoreboard show. “Even early in the third, when we went down, they kept playing. Finally our offense got (on track) in the fourth and we were able to seal it.”
The title game will match No. 9 Silver Creek, the defending champion, against No. 6 Coronado. But the No. 13 seed (Delta) and No. 7 seed (TCA) made it to the semifinals.
“I think what that shows is there’s a lot of parity in 3A this year, and there really wasn’t any team that could run away with anything — including us. We obviously had some struggles in the regular season,” Apodaca said. “We’re looking forward to defending our state title.”
Silver Creek will host the title game.
