Every No. 1 team in the CHSAANow.com volleyball rankings held their position, but there was still plenty of new looks near the top of each class.
In Class 5A, Chatfield remains undefeated at No. 1, but they have company nipping at their heels. The Mountain Vista Golden Eagles made the jump from No. 10 to No. 2 following a sweep of 4A’s Ponderosa, a team that many would call one of the best in the state, regardless of classification.
Undefeated Prairie View and Bright both join the rankings this week at No. 8 and No. 9, respectively.
In 4A, Lewis-Palmer has yet to relinquish the top spot this year, but now it has Colorado Springs-area rival Cheyenne Mountain right behind them at No. 2. The Indians looked impressive during a 3-0 sweep of Doherty this week and will get their shot at the Rangers later this season.
Ponderosa fell two spots following its loss to Mountain Vista.
New to the 4A poll this week is Elizabeth, who comes in at No. 10.
Eaton continues to remain dominant in the 3A rankings, even taking down last week’s No. 2 Platte Valley early last week.
Undefeated Alamosa breaks into the 3A rankings this week, jumping all the way up to No. 7.
Resurrection Christian says firmly in the No. 1 spot in 2A. One team did break their way into this week’s poll as Vail Christian lands at No. 9.
The No. 1 team in 1A is still Idalia, who has yet to lose this season. McClave played its way into the 1A rankings this week, landing at No. 9.
The rankings, voted upon by coaches and select media members, are the official polls of the Association. Polls are released each Monday.

Valor Christian softball is back to the No. 1 spot in 4A. (Ryan Casey/CHSAANow.com)
Powered by a week in which they went 2-0 and outscored their opponents 29-0, the Valor Christian Eagles have returned to the No. 1 spot in the Class 4A CHSAANow.com softball rankings.
That was the only change at the top of the polls as Legend held strong in 5A and Strasburg remained on top in 3A.
There was a lot of movement in the 5A rankings as Chaparral jumped from No. 7 to No. 4 and Loveland rose from No. 10 to No. 5. Broomfield was the lone newcomer in this week’s poll as they landed at No. 8.
Besides Valor Christian taking over the top spot in 4A, the biggest change of the week was Mountain View jumping from No. 7 to No. 5. There were no new teams to join the 4A rankings this week.
Burlington and Cedaredge jumped into the 3A rankings at No. 9 and No. 10, respectively. Eaton picked up some ground as they land at No. 3, up two spots from their ranking last week.

PARKER — Tuesday night was an exciting matchup between crosstown rivals as the Ponderosa Mustangs edged the Legend Titans 3-1 (25-11, 25-14, 25-27, 25-21).
The two teams’ student sections showed up creating an electrifying atmosphere that played a big factor in the battle two highly ranked teams from their respective classes.
“There is so much hype around this match up that it’s hard not to let the crowd effect or let the crowd get in the girls heads,” said Legend coach Kate Winsor. “As much as you talk about managing that, we finally started managing it a little better in game three and playing a little bit more of our game. The team that usually shows up each and every match.”
Legend, ranked No. 4 in Class 5A, struggled the first two games to gain any type of advantage over 4A No. 2 Ponderosa, losing 25-11 and 25-14.
The Titans fought back and with the help of outside hitter Jordan Mullen. The Mustangs looked like they were going to comeback to take the lead with a 7-0 run tying the game 23-23. The Titans, determined not to lose 3-0, finished strong and took the set 27-25.
“We played outstanding in the first two sets and very poor in the third set and some how miraculously battled back in the fourth,” said Ponderosa coach Rob Graham.
Graham gave credit to middle blocker Allison Smith for her serving and blocking in the fourth set.
“At first I was starting to get angry because I just wanted to win, so I just changed it to just getting relaxed and calming my team down to get that last fourth game,” Smith said.
Miraculous is the right word for the Mustangs comeback.
The Titans were able to carry their momentum from the third set leading 16-8. Just when it looked like the they were going to even up the sets, Ponderosa went on two different 5-0 runs eventually taking the lead forcing Legend to call for a timeout. Mustangs were able to finish how they started winning 25-21.
Both coaches expressed how competitive their league.
“We normally have five or six teams that are in the top ten pool so it’s like every night is a really big one,” Winsor said.
“Our league is probably the toughest in my opinion,” Graham said. “We have multiple teams in the top 10 and when you can beat a team like this, that also beat someone in another league like Cherokee Trail is huge.”
Cherry Creek volleyball broke into the Class 5A rankings this week. (Tim Visser/TimVisserPhotography.com)
This week’s CHSAANow.com volleyball rankings received quite a shakeup as Cherry Creek (No. 6), Denver East (No. 7), Chaparral (No. 9) and Mountain Vista (No. 10) all broke into this week’s Class 5A poll.
Even when there was status quo, there was change: For the first time this season, the No. 1 team in Class 5A held their spot, as Chatfield took seven of the 10 first-place votes this week.
Both Cherokee Trail (No. 2) and Rock Canyon (No. 3) jumped one spot. Rock Canyon looked strong against then No. 5 Regis Jesuit last week, showing that they have earned their spot as a top-three team.
Legend is fourth this week, and Lakewood moved into the top-5 from No. 9. Grandview is No. 8 this week.
In 4A, Lewis-Palmer continues to top the poll. The Ranges looked impressive in a 3-0 sweep over Valor Christian last Thursday. Holy Family also continues to impress and they made the jump from No. 10 to No. 5 as a result.
At 9-1, Delta breaks into the poll at No. 9.
The teams in the 3A rankings remained the same this week, but Platte Valley leapt over CSCS to come in at No. 2. Eaton stayed in their position at No. 1 and received all 10 first-place votes.
Resurrection Christian has yet to lose and remains the top team in 2A. They are joined in the poll this week by Union Colony (No. 9) and Ignacio (No. 10).
Idalia held firm in the top spot of the 1A poll. There were no newcomers this week, but Briggsdale did jump from No. 10 to No. 5. Weldon Valley fell two spots, going from No. 4 to No. 2.

Legend has returned to the top of the CHSAANow.com softball rankings in Class 5A.
Following a 3-2 loss to Loveland, Mountain Range fell out of the top spot in 5A, allowing Legend to move in at No. 1 this week. The win also helped Loveland break into this week’s poll as they come in at No. 10.
Loveland was the only new addition in 5A, but plenty of other moves were made. Ralston Valley jumped from No. 5 to No. 2 on the strength of a 3-0 record from last week. Chaparral also made a significant jump this week going from No. 10 to No. 7.
In 4A, Frederick retained the top spot, and Erie stayed firm at No. 2. Valor Christian comes in at No. 3 and Wheat Ridge at No. 4, with those two teams trading places from last week.
Discovery Canyon (No. 9) and Pueblo Central (No. 10) are the new additions to the 4A poll this week.
Strasburg remains the No. 1 team in 3A after receiving every first-place vote. Brush cracks its way into the rankings at No. 9.
