Cripple Creek-Victor snapped a 35-game losing streak on Friday with a 65-31 win over Colorado Deaf & Blind.
It was the program’s first win since the 2011 season — and first on-field win since 2010, a span of 42 games.
The Pioneers went 0-9 each of the past two seasons, 0-7 in 2013, and 0-8 in 2012. They were 1-8 in 2011, losing their final game after getting a forfeit win against Limon on Oct. 21, 2011.
Their last on-field win came against Ellicott in the final game of the 2010 season, with a 20-6 victory on Oct. 30, 2010.
The Pioneers nearly snapped the losing streak last week. They led Hanover 25-14 heading into the fourth quarter, but gave up 14 points in the final frame to lose 28-25.
Friday night, there would be no such letdown with the 34-point win.

Pueblo West nearly pulled off the upset, leading much of the second half, but Pueblo East got a touchdown from Bryson Torres with a minute to play to secure its 15th in a row.
Pueblo West held leads of 8-3, 14-11, 21-11 and 21-17 before East’s comeback.
Pueblo East’s winning streak is tied for the longest current active steak in the state.

4A/3A: Niwot 17, Summit 14
Niwot is 2-0 following its win over Summit.
The Cougars, who snapped a 24-game losing streak last October, haven’t started a season 2-0 since 2005, when they finished 9-2.
In fact, Niwot hasn’t won two games in a season since 2013. And both wins this year have been of the come-from-behind variety.
“I’m really proud of the kids’ fortitude,” Niwot coach Dylan Hollingsworth told the Colorado Preps Scoreboard Show after the game. “Anytime we were down last year, you knew it was over. We never responded well to it. And they have really played hard through the adversity this year.”
The game marked a return for Hollingsworth, who left Summit after 10 seasons to take over Niwot in 2015.
“It was interesting being on the opposite sideline, looking at everything that I’ve always had my back to, and having my back to everything that I’ve always looked at,” Hollingsworth said.

Notables
West Grand football coach Chris Brown extended his career wins record with a 42-12 decision over South Park. That’s No. 308 in his career.
… and Kent Denver’s Scott Yates stayed right behind Brown with win No. 307 as his Sun Devils beat Faith Christian 27-12.
4A No. 10 Broomfield got its first win under new coach Blair Hubbard, 21-14 over Wheat Ridge. “The transition’s really been very smooth, and the kids are excited and really believe in what we want to do here,” Hubbard told the Scoreboard Show. “The community’s been really supportive. It’s been a great place to be through the summer and here in the fall now.”
Fruita Monument got its first win of 2016 by beating rival Grand Junction 38-14. “I do think we’ve got a good team. I keep saying that, because I believe it having been around this for a while,” Wildcats coach Todd Casebier told the Scoreboard Show. “Our season hasn’t gone as well as we’d hoped so far, but it was a big win for us tonight.”
Fairview, ranked No. 10 in 5A, handled rival Boulder 50-9.
In 2A, No. 8 Platte Valley edged No. 9 Eaton 26-12. “It was a good early test for us,” coach Troy Hoffman told the Scoreboard Show.
Lewis-Palmer made its claim for a spot in the 3A ranking by beating No. 9 Evergreen 42-0.
Another big one in 1A: No. 6 Limon topped No. 4 Crowley County 14-7. “We gave up one big play, and … I thought we did a great job other than that one play,” coach Mike O’Dwyer told the Scoreboard Show.
A good old-fashioned 6-man shootout: No. 3 La Veta beat Walsh 79-64.

Legend volleyball is back in the top-10 in 5A. (Ray Chen/ArrayPhoto.com)
As the season comes into the home stretch the top teams of the CHSAANow.com volleyball rankings are all holding their positions.
Cherokee Trail, Lewis-Palmer, Eaton, Resurrection Christian and Idalia held on to the No. 1 positions in their respective classes.
The big movement in 5A was the return of Legend to the top 10. The Titans briefly held on to the No. 1 spot in 5A this season and fell out of the poll last week, despite getting a big win over then-No. 4 Rock Canyon.
Legend swept Douglas County on Tuesday, which played a part in their return to the top 10.
The top eight teams in the 4A rankings remained intact this week. The Classical Academy was the lone newcomer as they took over the No. 8 spot.
This week will see plenty of excitement in 4A as No. 1 Lewis-Palmer travels to No. 2 Cheyenne Mountain in a huge league contest. This has also become a big volleyball rivalry in the Pikes Peak Athletic Conference over the last few seasons.
After sweeping No. 2 University last week, Platte Valley is climbing back up the top 10 in 2A. They jumped from No. 6 to No. 4 as result of the win. The loss did not affect University, however, as the Bulldogs remained in the No. 2 spot.
Faith Christian joins the 3A rankings at No. 9. The Eagles fell out of the poll two weeks ago.
Panoia made the biggest jump in 2A this week, going from No. 9 to No. 6. Union Colony and Ignacio are this week’s newcomers, coming in at No. 7 and No. 8, respectively.
The 1A rankings also saw the addition of two new teams as Norwood lands at No. 9 and Walsh comes in right behind them at No. 10.
The rankings, voted upon by coaches and select media members, are the official polls of the Association. Polls are released each Monday.

Walsh Eagles volleyball update
The Walsh Lady Eagles aren’t just refueling with milk after their games and practices this season, they are also impressing us with their nutrition outreach throughout the Walsh community.
Starting at the high school, opponents of Walsh are now greeted with a banner of the volleyball team fueling up with milk as they enter into the Walsh High School gym. For anyone who knows the benefits of drinking milk as a refuel beverage, this banner provides an intimidation factor beyond the strength of their winning record.
Milk, both white and chocolate, provides key nutrients needed after exercise.
Milk is 90 percent water and a great tasting choice after practice and games. Milk’s fluids and electrolytes, including calcium, potassium and magnesium, rehydrate the body and replenish what is lost in sweat.
Carbohydrates in milk refuel muscles and replenish glycogen (energy) stores.
High-quality protein aids in muscle recovery and repair.
Calcium, vitamin D and phosphorus build & maintain strong bones.
Milk provides potassium to help ward off muscle cramping.
B vitamins in milk help convert food to energy.
This Walsh team is using funding from Western Dairy Association’s Fuel Up with Milk grant to purchase milk after both practices and games this season to reap these benefits. But this team didn’t stop there.
Coach Alissa Renquist explains that the girls shared the benefits of milk with the high school and local elementary school by creating posters to hang in both schools.
“We had a contest,” Renquist explained.
The girls paired up and created posters based on research they conducted on milk’s benefits. Then they hung posters in the high school and elementary school. The posters were judged and “the group that won was awarded a few conditioning drills off,” Renquist said.
Next, “We are hoping to attend each class at the elementary school and have the girls talk about all those benefits with each class,” Renquist said.
The dairy farm families of Western Dairy Association are proud to support the Walsh Lady Eagles this season and wish them the best of luck with the rest of their season.
Athletes can train harder and perform better with proper nutrition. Visit WesternDairyAssociation.org to read more about milk as an exercise recovery beverage and learn how to eat for peak athletic performance.
Dylan McCaffrey (12) and Valor Christian open 2015 as the No. 1 team in Class 5A. (Kai Casey/CHSAANow.com)
Defending champions rule the preseason football rankings, save for two classifications.
Pine Creek (Class 4A), Pueblo East (3A), Brush (2A), Paonia (1A) and Caliche (8-man) all won championships last season — and each one sat atop their respective classfication when the preseason CHSAANow.com Football Polls were released on Monday.
Only Valor Christian (5A) and Fleming (6-man) are preseason No. 1 teams without being a defending champion. Valor was the runner-up in 5A last season, while Fleming was a semifinalists in 6-man.
The 5A voters were pretty determined that the top three teams this season would be Valor, Cherry Creek and Pomona. Each team received at least one first-place vote, and the trio separated themselves from the rest of the field by more than 50 points each.
Valor got nine of the 15 first-place votes and totaled 140 points. Cherry Creek, last season’s 5A champion, is No. 2 with four first-place votes and 134 total points. Pomona got one first-place vote and is No. 3 at 123 total points.
At No. 4 is Regis Jesuit and new coach Dan Filleman. Perennial contender Columbine rounds out the top five.
Fairview, led by senior star Carlo Kemp, checks in at No. 6; returning semifinalist Grandview is No. 7; and Fountain-Fort Carson is No. 8.
Ralston Valley, another semifinalist, opens at No. 9, and Doherty rounds out the ranking at No. 10.
Longmont, the 4A runner-up, is No. 2; Dakota Ridge is third; and Falcon (No. 4) and Denver South (No. 5) round out the top five.
Pueblo East is No. 1 in 3A’s preseason poll. (Mark Adams)
In 3A, defending champion Pueblo East returns a stacked roster, but will have a new coach in interim head Lee Meisner. Even still, the Eagles got 13 of the 14 first-place votes in 3A, and lead the ranking.
Fort Morgan got the other first-place vote and is No. 2 to begin the year. Evergreen is third, Holy Family is fourth and Palisade is No. 5.
Brush, another team looking to defend its title, led the 2A poll with seven of the 10 first-place votes. The Beetdiggers, too, have a new coach: Reid Kahl. Kent Denver, last year’s runner-up, opens at No. 2.
In the 1A ranking, Paonia, the defending champion, received eight of the 12 first-place votes. Buena Vista is No. 2.
The 8-man poll was interesting. Defending champion Caliche leads the way at No. 1 in the preseason, but four different teams received first-place votes — including Dayspring Christian at No. 3, which got three top votes. Caliche and No. 2 Norwood each got two first-place votes, and Granada got one.
Fleming got four first-place votes to lead the 6-man ranking, while No. 2 Eads and No. 3 Arickaree/Woodlin each received one. Arickaree/Woodlin won last season’s title.
The rankings, voted upon by coaches and select media members, are the official polls of the Association. Polls are released each Monday.
