Before coming to Colorado, he was the head coach at Fromberg, a 6-man team in Montana, in 2013 and 2014. He also has experience as a middle school football, basketball and track coach.
Prospect Ridge, a 2A program, will enter its third year of varsity competition next fall.
The Miners went 1-8 and 3-6 in their first two seasons under former coach John Roberts.
The 2017 all-state football teams are presented by CHSAANow.com, ColoradoPreps.com and MaxPreps.
These teams were created following a lengthy process which included nominations from leagues, and then a vote of head coaches across the state.
Players were placed onto the first-team, second-team and honorable mention based upon the number of votes they received. In 5A-1A, spots were reserved for linemen and one kicker/punter, while 8-man reserved spots for linemen.
CHSAA does not determine who makes or doesn’t make the team; they are created entirely from the results of the coaches’ vote.
The senior’s kick came following a 9-yard run for junior quarterback Zachary Anderson. Pueblo East also called a timeout in an attempt to ice Gurnett, but it didn’t faze him.

For now, Kent Denver’s Scott Yates is sitting alone atop the state’s all-time football coaching wins record.
With the Class 3A No. 1 Sun Devils’ 59-0 win over Prospect Ridge Academy, Yates grabbed win No. 316, putting him one game ahead of West Grand’s Chris Brown.
The Mustangs are in action next week when they travel to Sanford to open their open.
It was Brown who set the state’s all-time wins record last year with a 32-12 win over the same Sanford team in Week 1.
He sat two games ahead of Yates, but a deep playoff run helped the Kent Denver coach match the wins total at the end of the 2016 season.

Scott Yates and Chris Brown enter the 2017 season as the two winningest coaches in Colorado high school football history.
Yates, the coach at Kent Denver, and Brown, the head man at West Grand, have each amassed 315 career victories. They spent the 2016 season trading the top spot in the record book.
But neither one sees it as a chase, and in fact each wants the other to hold the record.
“He’ll blow by me in a Wyoming wind because he’ll coach for a long time, too,” Brown said of Yates when he held the record last fall. “It’s fine. It’s okay when he goes right on by me.”
Yates will get the first crack at owning the all-time wins record, if only for a week. Kent Denver plays Prospect Ridge Academy at home on Aug. 26 at 1 p.m.
Five days later, Brown and West Grand take on Sanford on Sept. 1 at 6 p.m.
