  • All-state boys basketball teams for the 2019-20 season

    The 2019-20 all-state boys basketball teams are presented by CHSAANow.com, ColoradoPreps.com and MaxPreps.

    These teams were created following a lengthy process which included nominations from leagues, and then a vote of coaches.

    A specific player of the year vote was held in each class, as was a vote for coach of the year.

  • No. 1 Resurrection Christian boys basketball outlasts No. 3 Sterling in OT

    Resurrection Christian hit a late 3-pointer to tie its heavyweight matchup with Sterling, then the top-ranked Cougars beat the third-ranked Tigers in overtime on Tuesday night.

    Down 60-57, Resurrection Christian’s Isaac Jessup hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds to play in regulation to knot the game at 60, according to 1230 KSTC radio in Sterling.

    In overtime, Sterling went up 62-60, only to see the Cougars score five quick points to push ahead 65-62, including a 3-pointer from Reece Johnson with 2:07 remaining.

    Sterling cut the lead to 65-64 when Tucker Myers grabbed a rebound and scored.

    Resurrection Christian responded with another 3-pointer, this one from Jackson Romero with about a minute remaining. The Cougars closed the game out with some solid defense, and also hit five free throws in the final minute for the 73-67 win.

    Sterling had battled back from down 40-28 at halftime to get back in the game.

    Romero led Resurrection Christian with 23 points, according to KSTC. Jessup had 18 points, and Johnson scored 15.

    Sterling was led by Jackson Keil’s 17 points. Axel Henry had 16, Dylan Anderson put up 14, and Shalla scored 11.

    Resurrection Christian moves to 11-0, including 3-0 in the Class 3A Patriot League. Sterling is now 9-2, 2-1 in Patriot play.

  • Boys basketball rankings: Eight new teams hop into the polls

    A total of eight new teams joined this week’s basketball rankings: Chaparral (5A), Longmont (4A), Erie (4A), St. Mary’s (3A), Sedgwick County (2A), Ouray (1A), Caliche (1A) and Mile High Academy (1A).

    The rankings, voted upon by coaches and select media members, are the official polls of the Association. During the regular season, they are released each Monday.
