    Five new teams have hopped into this week’s volleyball rankings: Longmont (4A), Coal Ridge (3A), Union Colony (2A), Akron (2A) and Flagler/Hi-Plains (1A).

    The 2018 all-state girls soccer teams honor the best players in the sport as judged by the leagues and coaches. They are presented by CHSAANow.com, ColoradoPreps.com and MaxPreps.

    These teams were created following a lengthy process which included nominations from leagues, and then a vote of head coaches.

    MONTROSE — Grand Junction’s Gracie Olkowski won the Montrose Invitational at Black Canyon on Tuesday, helping the Tigers win the team title, as well.

    Olkowski shot ever par to win. Rifle’s Elly Walters was second at 6-over, and Grand Junction’s Brittlyn Odell (9-over) finished third. Rifle’s Masi Smith was fourth at +10, and Taylor Kettrell of Montrose (+12) was fifth.

    Grand Junction shot 26-over as a team to win. Rifle placed second at +42, with Montrose (+48) finishing third, Battle Mountain (+84) placing fourth, and Coal Ridge (+104) coming in fifth.

    Jenna Greenlee (+17) also had a scoring round for Grand Junction.

    The 2017-18 all-state boys basketball teams are presented by CHSAANow.com, ColoradoPreps.com and MaxPreps.

  • 3A’s state basketball brackets are out; 2A and 1A set for regionals

    The Class 3A state basketball brackets were released on Sunday, with Kent Denver (girls) and Sterling (boys) earning the top seeds.

    Both 3A tournaments will narrow their fields to eight teams after next weekend. Once they do, they will move to the University of Denver for their Great 8 and beyond on March 8-10.

    Kent Denver, which enters at 19-3-0, finished as No. 1 in the final 3A girls RPI standings of the season. The Sun Devils won the Metro League district tournament over the weekend.

    Other high seeds in 3A girls include No. 2 Pagosa Springs, No. 3 St. Mary’s, No. 4 Colorado Springs Christian, No. 5 Centauri, No. 6 Cedaredge, No. 7 Sterling and No. 8 Moffat County. Those teams will each host four teams in their quadrant this coming Friday and Saturday.

    Lamar, the defending champion, is seeded No. 10 and will play at Sterling’s quadrant.

    On the boys side, Sterling (22-0) is No. 1. The Tigers are defending champions, and finished atop the final 3A boys RPI standings.

    Also hosting quadrants in 3A boys are No. 2 Alamosa, No. 3 Coal Ridge, No. 4 Platte Valley, No. 5 Vanguard, No. 6 Faith Christian, No. 7 Bayfield and No. 8 DSST-Stapleton.

    2A and 1A set for regionals

    Regional brackets for 2A and 1A are also out Sunday. The 1A brackets will be published as they are sent to the CHSAA office. Find them here:

    Those district brackets will also narrow to eight teams for a state tournament field, which will be announced next Sunday. The 2A tournaments are at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, with 1A at Northern Colorado. Both tourneys will play their title games at Budweisier Events Center.

    Like 3A, those brackets will play their Great 8 and beyond on March 8-10.
