  • Centaurus and Skyview combine to score 64 runs in a softball game

    (Christopher Kemm/Skyview HS)

Centaurus and Skyview combined to kick off their softball seasons with some fireworks.

The two teams scored a total of 64 runs in Saturday’s season-opener for both teams. Centaurus won 34-30.

There was only one half-inning in which the teams didn’t score: Skyview held Centaurus off the board in the top of the first inning. But from there on out, each team scored at least once the rest of the game.

Centaurus scored 17 runs in the top of the fourth inning. Skyview had eight runs in the bottom of the fourth. After that inning, the Warriors led 27-18. It was 30-23 after the fifth, and Skyview cut it to 32-29 following a six-run sixth inning.

But Centaurus added two runs in the top of the seventh to go up 34-29, and then Skyview had its lowest run output of the entire game in the bottom half, scoring just one run.

Individually, freshmen Lily Wright and Paige Morton each had five RBIs for Centaurus. Morton also had five hits, including a home run, and scored a team-high six runs. Kay Borrego, a sophomore, went 6-for-7.

Another freshman, Brianna Williams, had five stolen bases.

Centaurus had an on-base percentage of .603 as a team, and a slugging percentage of .851 in the game.

The 2018 all-state girls soccer teams honor the best players in the sport as judged by the leagues and coaches. They are presented by CHSAANow.com, ColoradoPreps.com and MaxPreps.

These teams were created following a lengthy process which included nominations from leagues, and then a vote of head coaches.

Player and coach of the year was also selected by a vote of the coaches.
