5A Football: Two Upsets in First Round
AURORA – No. 17 Grandview and No. 20 Cherokee Trail were the only lower-seeed teams to post victories in the first round of the 5A state football playoffs this weekend.

AURORA – No. 9 Wellington, No. 10 Sterling and No. 13 Eaton all survived the first-round of the 2A football playoffs, despite being the lower seeded team. With the wins, all three teams, in addition to No. 1 Strasburg, No. 2 Basalt, No. 3 The Classical Academy, No. 5 Lamar and No. 6 Berthoud, will advance to the quarterfinal round.
AURORA – The top seeds advance in all seven first-round 1A football playoff games completed this weekend, while No. 13 Holyoke snuck past No. 4 Centauri on Monday to post the first upset of the bracket.
AURORA – No. 11 Sedgwick County posted the first upset of the 8-man football playoffs, shutting out No. 6 West Grand, 24-0, in the first round. No. 8 Sanford vs. No. 9 Springfield is the only game that wasn’t completed this weekend and will be played on Monday.
AURORA – Of the five first-round 6-man football playoff games completed this weekend, the higher seeded prevailed in all of them. There are three games still to be played on Monday.
