The sting of last season remains for the Pueblo South softball team.

The large obstacle that stood in the way of University’s quest to win last season’s Class 3A state championship is gone.

In this week’s rankings, all three No. 1 teams remained the same, while three new teams entered the top-10.

The Montrose and Durango softball teams opened Southwestern League play against one another on Saturday, splitting a doubleheader at Montrose. The Montrose Red Hawks won Game 1, 7-5, and the Durango Demons won Game 2, 8-4.

ARVADA — Arvada West softball coach Brenna Millikan might have needed to ice her right shoulder after Friday’s non-league home game against Castle View.

In this week’s rankings, Lutheran jumped to the top spot in 4A after starting the season 2-0.

The preseason softball rankings were released on Monday for all three classifications. Leading their respective polls are Legend (5A), Holy Family (4A) and Eaton (3A).

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The NFHS Softball Rules Committee has approved the wearing of jewelry in the sport, effective with the 2023 season. Previously, only medical and religious medals were permitted.

CHICAGO – Nikki McGaffin of Fossil Ridge was named the 2021-22 Gatorade Colorado Softball Player of the Year, the organization announced Thursday, June 9. McGaffin is the second Gatorade Colorado Softball Player of the Year to be chosen from Fossil Ridge.
