Jason Romero was courted by Palmer Ridge to take over the Bears’ wrestling program in 2018 and not long after that, he found himself also coaching the school’s softball team.

LAKEWOOD — There was nothing wrong with hitting hard ground balls with a gusty win blowing in from centerfield late Tuesday afternoon at Ray Baker Field on the campus of Lakewood High School.

Broomfield Eagles softball coach Kale Gilmore and his returning varsity players have had since last October to stew about what happened to them at Aurora Sports Park.

After a week of softball action in 2021, the top ranked 5A (Fossil Ridge) and 3A (Eaton) teams remained the same, while in 4A, Mead rose to the top.

The preseason softball rankings were released on Monday for all three classifications. Leading their respective polls are: Fossil Ridge (5A), Holy Family (4A) and Eaton (3A).
