It was much closer than Pueblo West would have liked, but the second-ranked Cyclones managed to hold onto a one-run lead to defeat Palmer Ridge 8-7 on Tuesday.
Justin Olson went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs as Class 5A No. 7 Pine Creek upset No. 4 Rock Canyon 7-1 on Tuesday.
Tyler Schultz went 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI as Class 5A No. 1 Cherry Creek beat No. 8 Legend 6-5 on Thursday.
Baseball’s preseason rankings were unveiled on Monday, and Cherry Creek (5A), Valor Christian (4A), Eaton (3A), Paonia (2A) and Holly (1A) are the top-ranked teams in their respective classifications.
At Thursday’s Legislative Council meeting, the council voted to expand the number of 3A, 4A and 5A baseball games.
The equity committee strongly stated that if baseball’s games limit is increased, softball should be given the same opportunity.
The Legislative Council meets next month, and they’ll have their hands full with more than 40 items to vote on.
