To say Platte Valley’s girls basketball team never let up doesn’t really cut it.

LOVELAND – There will be a new girls champion this year in Class 2A, as No. 2 seed Holyoke knocked out defending champion and No. 3 seed Limon, 45-34, in the semifinals Friday at the Budweiser Events Center. 

Two of the top scorers in the state went head-to-head on Thursday with Jackson Keil and the No. 2 seed Sterling Tigers facing off with Jordan Reed and the No. 7 Manual Thunderbolts in the Great 8 round.

Based on recent history, one would argue a meeting between Grand Valley Cardinals and the St. Mary’s Pirates would see the Pirates as the favorites and the Cardinals as underdogs. St. Mary’s is the team to win the state title in 2018 and 2019, and they have been regulars in reaching the Great 8 of the state tournament. As for Grand Valley, this was its first appearance in the Great 8 round since 2008.

DENVER — Valor Christian senior Raegan Beers is making up for lost time in a big way.

A year after losing in the semifinals of the Class 2A girls state basketball tournament, top-seeded Sanford is back in the Final 4 after a convincing quarterfinal victory.
