LOVELAND – Despite scoring only six points in the first quarter, No. 1 seed Yuma found its offense in the second quarter and then held off No. 4 seed Denver Christian to advance to the 2A state championship game with a 59-49 semifinal victory Friday at the Budweiser Events Center.
The excitement in Hamilton Gym at the University of Denver was high for Friday’s Final Four round that saw two games decided by a total of nine points. Up first was a rematch of a Great 8 showdown from last year between the No. 2 seed Sterling Tigers and the No. 3 seed Aspen Skiers. Late in the evening, an instant classic was played between the No. 1 seed St. Mary’s Pirates and the No. 5 seed Centauri Falcons.
GREELEY – The 1A boys basketball semifinals took place Friday evening inside the University of Northern Colorado’s Bank of Colorado Arena. Merino and McClave advanced to the championship game by defeating Granada and Sierra Grande, respectively. The two will play in the 1A boys basketball championship game at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland.
