Bayfield beat Lutheran 68-57 for its first boys basketball title in school history on Saturday night at the University of Denver’s Hamilton Gymnasium.

With bodies diving and flopping to the ground around him, Dax Snooks stayed just level enough in the final moments to propel Bayfield into its first state title game in 48 years.
After an upset of Sterling, Lutheran advanced to the Class 3A boys basketball championship game where it will face Bayfield. Tri-Peaks rivals Colorado Springs Christian and St. Mary’s will meet in the girls title game.
Bayfield’s Ryan Phelps struggled from the field in an otherwise standout performance on Thursday evening.
Lutheran (3A), Soroco (2A), Eads (1A) and Sierra Grande (1A) are each newcomers to this week’s girls basketball rankings.
