LAFAYETTE — Bishop Machebeuf swept Peak to Peak in volleyball on Tuesday, 25-18, 25-23, 25-16.
Felica Hernandez had 16 kills to lead the Buffaloes, and Rebecca Haven added 14. Elizabeth Jensen had 32 assists and 10 digs.

State golf roundup: Weather intervenes in 4A and 5A tournaments
Rain pours down on Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo, site of the 4A. More photos. (Bert Borgmann/CHSAANow.com) The class 5A and 4A boys golf state tournaments each battled two weather delays on Monday, slowing the first day of the championships.
Lightning and rain halted the 4A tournament in Pueblo for nearly an hour at 1:48 p.m., and again a 4:03 p.m. The second delay lasted 45 minutes.
Meanwhile, rain and hail struck the Colorado Springs area and delayed the 5A event for an hour and 15 minutes at 2:17 p.m. Lightning caused another delay at 4:14 p.m., this one spanning 35 minutes.
Eventually, both tournaments were able to complete the first day of play.
Fort Collins’ Hunter Paugh led all 5A golfers with a 2-under 69 on the first day in Colorado Springs. Arapahoe’s David Packer is just one stroke back with a 1-under 70, while Grand Junction’s Trevor Olkowski is third at 2-over.
Isaac Petersilie of Coronado, the defending 4A champion who is now in the 5A tournament after his team moved up a class, is among of group of seven golfers who are tied for fourth at 3-over.
Coronado leads the team race at 13-over. Highlands Ranch (17-over) is second, and Boulder (23-over) is third.

The first day of the 4A tournament belonged to Valor Christian, the defending champion. As a team, the Eagles, who finished at 10-under, hold a 14-stroke lead on second-place Pueblo South (4-over). Cheyenne Mountain (13-over) is third.
Individually, Valor Christian teammates Jake Staiano and Coby Welch are tied for the lead at 5-under. Pueblo South’s Taylor Rodriguez is third at 3-under, while Mesa Ridge Braden Bently and Steamboat Springs’ Britt Walton are tied for fourth at 1-under.
The 3A tournament did not have trouble with weather, and completed its round around 3:15 p.m.
Sterling’s Trey Lambrecht led the field after shooting a 4-under 68, while Peak to Peak’s Sam Taylor and Colorado Academy’s Max Messner are tied for second with a 1-under 71.
Sterling led the 3A team race at 6-over, ahead of defending champion Dawson School (12-over) and Kent Denver (16-over).

Grandview moves up to No. 2 in 5A volleyball rankings
Grandview is No. 2 in this week’s 5A volleyball rankings. (Kevin Keyser/KeyserImages.com) Grandview, a winner last week over then-No. 2 Eaglecrest, has made a big jump in CHSAANow.com’s Class 5A volleyball poll this week.
The Wolves moved from No. 5 to No. 2 following the sweep of Eaglecrest, and another of Arapahoe.
Meanwhile, Castle View joined the 5A ranking at No. 10 following a win over No. 3 Chaparral. Chaparral remained at No. 3, just behind consistent No. 1 Rampart and Grandview.
Rampart remained at No. 1 despite its loss to 4A No. 1 Lewis-Palmer, which owns the claim to the best team in the state at the moment.
Each of the three other No. 1 teams also stayed put. Those are Eaton, Resurrection Christian and Fleming.
The rankings, voted upon by coaches and select media members, are the official polls of the Association. Polls are released each Monday.

Ralston Valley is newcomer to 5A volleyball rankings
Fairview moved up to No. 4 in this week’s 5A volleyball rankings. (Kai Casey/CHSAANow.com) Ralston Valley has joined this week’s Class 5A volleyball rankings as released by CHSAANow.com.
The Mustangs, now 7-1, entered at No. 8 this week.
Elsewhere in 5A, Eaglecrest made a big jump in going from No. 6 to No. 2. Unbeaten Fairview also had a big move as the Knights went from No. 8 to No. 4.
All five No. 1 teams remained the same this week: Rampart (5A), Lewis-Palmer (4A), Eaton (3A), Resurrection Christian (2A) and Fleming (1A).
There are two new teams in the 3A ranking this week: Peak to Peak (No. 8) and Eagle Ridge (No. 9).
In 2A, Simla joined at No. 7.

Denver East, Coal Ridge new No. 1 teams in boys soccer rankings
Denver East toppled Pine Creek last week. This week, the Angels took Pine Creek’s spot atop the Class 5A boys soccer rankings.
Denver East received six of the 13 first-place votes and garnered 111 over points in moving up three places to No. 1 in this week’s CHSAANow.com ranking. Pine Creek, which still got three first-place votes, dropped to No. 2.
Smoky Hilll moved up six places to No. 3 this week following wins over Rangeview and Heritage last week. The Buffaloes’ lone loss is to Denver East this season.
The 5A poll also got three new teams this week: No. 8 Adams City, No. 9 Fossil Ridge and No. 10 Chatfield.
There’s also a new No. 1 team in 3A, where Coal Ridge takes over for Salida. That poll added four new teams: No. 5 Pagosa Springs (which knocked off Salida), No. 8 Peak to Peak, No. 9 Arrupe Jesuit and No. 10 Crested Butte.
Coal Ridge and Salida play on Saturday.
Air Academy, 4A’s top team, stayed put this week. But that class also has three newcomers: No. 8 Niwot, No. 9 Montrose and No. 10 Littleton.

The 2014 all-state baseball teams honor the best players in the sport as judged by the leagues and coaches. They are presented by CHSAANow.com, ColoradoPreps.com and MaxPreps.
These teams were created following a lengthy process which included nominations from leagues and coaches, and then a vote of coaches.
