The 2017 all-state football teams are presented by CHSAANow.com, ColoradoPreps.com and MaxPreps.
These teams were created following a lengthy process which included nominations from leagues, and then a vote of head coaches across the state.
Players were placed onto the first-team, second-team and honorable mention based upon the number of votes they received. In 5A-1A, spots were reserved for linemen and one kicker/punter, while 8-man reserved spots for linemen.
CHSAA does not determine who makes or doesn’t make the team; they are created entirely from the results of the coaches’ vote.
AURORA — The Classification and League Organizing Committee met Tuesday, and chief among their decisions was setting enrollment splits for the 2018-20 two-year cycle.
Those enrollment cutoffs are listed below, save for football, which has its classifications set by the football committee. Those splits will be posted within the next 10 days. This information is also available on this page.
A breakdown of each school’s reported Oct. 2017 enrollment, which is used to place programs into classifications, is available here.

Re-classification of schools
Three schools asked to reclassify according to bylaw 1500.21, which allows schools to move down a class if they meet a number of factors, such as socio-economics, geography, competitive history and enrollment trend.
Greeley Central was approved to reclassify. This means their team sports will compete in 4A, and representatives of the school said it was their intention to play up to 4A in sports, such as wrestling, where the reclassification would put them in 3A.
Montezuma-Cortez’s reclassification from 4A to 3A was also approved. Likewise, school reps said they would commit to playing up to 3A in any sports where the reclassification would put them in 2A.
Skyline’s reclassification from 5A to 4A was approved.

Program playdowns
The following schools had their program playdown requests approved. These programs will not be eligible to compete in the postseason, per bylaw 1500.27.
Arvada football from 3A to 2A.
Boulder softball from 5A to 4A.
Calhan football from 1A to 8-man.
Cripple-Creek Victor from 8-man to 6-man.
Dolores Huerta from 1A to 8-man.
Jefferson from 2A to 1A.
Loveland boys and girls soccer from 5A to 4A.
Mead boys soccer from 4A to 3A.
Pinnacle football from 2A to 1A.
Rangeview boys lacrosse from 5A to 4A.

New schools approved as members
The committee approved seven new schools for initial probationary membership into CHSAA. They are:
Denver School of Science & Tech – Byers, which is in Denver’s Wash Park neighborhood.
KIPP Northeast, located in northeast Denver.
Loveland Classical School, in Loveland.
Riverdale Ridge, in Brighton.
Strive Prep Rise, in northeast Denver.
Strive Prep Smart, in southwest Denver.
Thomas MacLaren, in Colorado Springs.
KIPP Northeast and Strive Prep Rise are housed in the same building and are planning to co-op, so they will play 4A. DSST-Byers, Riverdale Ridge and Strive Prep Smart will likely be 3A. Loveland Classical and Thomas MacLaren will likely be 2A,
Riverdale Ridge will most likely play 2A football, as well.
Another school, Windsor Charter, was not accepted because the CLOC members felt the school was not yet ready to become a member for a variety of reasons.
With these new schools, CHSAA will have 361 member schools in 2018-19.

Stargate School granted full membership
One new school has joined CHSAA as a full member, moving off probationary status: Stargate School, which is located in Thornton.
Three others up for review for full membership were left on probationary status:
DSST-College View was left on because it has had multiple CHSAA violations dealing with eligibility.
Golden View Classical Academy and Victory Prep Academy were both left on probationary status because no one from the school attended the CLOC meeting.
Windsor broke up a two-point conversion attempt in overtime to seal a wild 56-55 win over Skyline and wrap up the Northern League championship on Friday.
The fifth-ranked Wizards had led 49-33 with 5:47 remaining, but Skyline came storming back to tie the game at 49 following two touchdowns and two-point conversions.
Windsor scored first in overtime — quarterback Connor Apodaca faked a handoff up the middle and ran to an open end zone to his left — but No. 10 Skyline again responded. The Falcons’ Nathan McGregor hit Austin Robison on a play-action pass on fourth-down.
Skyline then went for two, its fourth such attempt of the game. This time the pass was broken up in the left side of the end zone. According to the Fort Collins Coloradoan, it was senior Bryce Kellum who had the big play.
The result was a Windsor win, and a conference championship. The Wizards are now 8-1 this season, and 4-0 in their league. Every other Northern team has at least two league losses.
Skyline is now 7-2, including 2-2 in the Northern.
“It was awesome,” Kellum told the paper of the win. “Just awesome.”
Windsor led 35-20 at halftime, a lead secured by a key interception from junior Tayt Gallatin in the end zone.
Noah Montague had two rushing scores for the Wizards, including a 91-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Isaiah Salazar also rushed for two touchdowns, according to the Coloradoan’s Kevin Lytle.
Skyline’s star running back Jeremy Hollingsworth had two touchdowns. McGregor had four total touchdowns, including a pass to Jack Wathen with 15.7 seconds left in regulation that helped tie the game.

6-man playoffs:
Top-seeded Stratton/Liberty rolled to a 52-6 win over No. 16 Briggsdale.
No. 7 Kit Carson advanced to the quarterfinals with a 46-12 win over Cotopaxi.
The remaining six first-round games are on Saturday.
3A No. 7 Canon City locked up at least of share of the Southern League with a 48-7 win over Woodland Park. The Tigers also hold a potential tiebreaker with a win over Discovery Canyon last week.
5A No. 4 Columbine is now in the same position in the Mount Cameron Conference, sitting at 4-0 after a 50-0 win over Mountain Range on Friday. The Rebels hold a potential tiebreaker over Fairview (which is 3-1 in league play).
In 8-man, No. 3 Merino beat No. 9 Haxtun 39-24.
No. 8 Burlington edged No. 5 Limon 29-28. “It was a great ballgame that could’ve gone either way,” coach Glynn Higgs told the Colorado Preps Scoreboard Show.
8-man No. 2 West Grand cruised to a 52-0 win over No. 6 Gilpin County.
Another top-10 clash in 8-man, where No. 10 Sargent rolled past No. 8 Mancos 54-14.
Belleview Christian won its first football game since 2012 on Saturday.
The Bruins beat Miami-Yoder 18-14 during their homecoming contest. It was their first victory since Oct. 6, 2012 against Justice — five years and one day ago.
The 8-man football program started in the fall of 2012, and went 2-6. Belleview Christian was then 0-7 in 2013, and didn’t field a team in 2014 nor 2015. The Bruins returned to the field last season, and went 0-6.
It means Saturday’s win, which was the first varsity win for second-year coach Darius Oller, also snapped a 17-game losing streak.
