No. 3 Regis Jesuit field hockey battles to a tie with No. 4 Colorado Academy

After a scoreless first half, Regis Jesuit and Colorado Academy each found the net once as two of the state’s top four field hockey teams battled to a tie.

The Mustangs and Raiders couldn’t determine a winner in either regulation or overtime, so they walked away with a 1-1 tie on Thursday.

It was senior Jill Murphy who scored for No. 4 Colorado Academy while Bridget Kennedy was the only Raider to find the net on the day.

It was just the second tie of the season for the Mustangs. They held even with No. 2 Palmer Ridge back on Aug. 29.

The Raiders also have another tie on the year. Theirs was to No. 1 Kent Denver. The Sun Devils handed Colorado Academy its only loss on the year while Palmer Ridge is the only team to have beaten Regis Jesuit.

Jaion Colbert scored the game-winning touchdown in the second overtime to lift Overland football over Legacy on Thursday night.

Neither team scored in the first overtime — Overland turned it over on downs, and Legacy had a field goal blocked.

In the second overtime, Legacy got the ball first, but then threw an interception. That set the stage for Colbert’s winning touchdown.

Colbert, the Overland senior, had three total touchdowns on Thursday, along with 198 yards, on 31 carries.

Jalon’e Rice had two receiving scores and 139 yards, while Camwrin Harris also caught a touchdown pass for the Trailblazers.

Legacy set school records with Alex Lewis’ 334 yards passing, and Ryan Lynch’s 224 yards receiving. Lewis had three total touchdowns, including two rushing scores. Brandon Willis also had two rushing TDs for Legacy.
