Fifth-ranked Wray football got an important top-10 win over No. 7 Holyoke on Saturday.
The Eagles, led by senior quarterback Tyler Collins, won 27-7 in a Class 1A contest.
“I am very proud of how we played, but hats off to Holyoke Dragons players and coaches,” Wray head coach Levi Kramer said. “They are very athletic, physical team that is extremely well coached. We just made a few more plays today.”
Collins opened the scoring with a 1-yard rush in the first quarter. He added a second score in the second quarter when he dashed 72 yards down the sideline to put his team up 13-0.
Later in that same quarter, Collins threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Trejo. That made it 21-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Holyoke got on the board when Miles Sprague scored from 71 yards away. It was 21-7 after three quarters.
Wray’s Junior Arambula capped the scoring with a 15-yard touchdown.
“I’m thankful to get to play this year,” Wray lineman Tel Wade said. “I’m glad we have good teams in our league to push us and prepare us for big games. Like Coach K said hats off to Holyoke.”
“In football the team that makes the fewest mistakes will win,” Holyoke head coach Dusty Sprague said. “We made too many mistakes as a team today. Wray did a great job capitalizing on those mistakes.”
Wray, now 4-0, will travel to top-ranked one Limon this week. Holyoke will be at Burlington on Tuesday.

The rankings, voted upon by coaches, are the official polls of the Association. Polls are released each Monday.
