For the second straight week, there’s a new team atop the Class 3A boys basketball rankings.
Lutheran knocked off Faith Christian, last week’s No. 1, with a 65-55 win on Saturday. Monday, the Lions received eight of the 14 first-place votes and totaled 128 points in taking over atop that poll.
Faith Christian dropped to second, just ahead of Colorado Springs Christian, which occupied the top spot prior to Faith. Colorado Academy, the preseason No. 1 team in 3A, is fourth this week and Jefferson Academy rounds out the top five.
With Lutheran, Faith, CA and Jefferson Academy all hailing from the 3A Metro, it means that league currently has four of the top five teams in 3A. No. 8 Kent Denver gives the league five ranked teams.
In 5A, Regis Jesuit remained a unanimous No. 1 pick. ThunderRidge (No. 2) and Eaglecrest (No. 3) continued to follow the raiders.
Overland bumped up one spot to No. 4, and Rock Canyon moved up to No. 5.
Chaparral also moved up, to No. 6, while Dakota Ridge fell to No. 7 following its first loss.
Denver East is up to No. 8, Fossil Ridge is now No. 9 and Monarch joined the poll at No. 10.
The 4A poll continued to be led by Longmont. That ranking added No. 8 D’Evelyn and No. 10 Lewis-Palmer this week.
Resurrection Christian (2A) and Sangre de Cristo (1A) held firm atop their respective polls.
The rankings, voted upon by coaches and select media members, are the official polls of the Association. Polls are released each Monday.
Josh Brown scored 21 points in The Pinnacle’s 66-35 win over Platte Canyon on Friday. None were more impressive than his fourth-quarter dunk.
With his team leading 57-30 with 3:33 to play, Brown stole a ball in his own end and raced up the court. He pushed the ball toward the basket as a defender closed in.
Brown then took off from just inside the right side of the key, jumped over the defender, and emphatically slammed it down with his right hand.
Watch it here:
Brown, a 6-foot-5 small forward/guard, is averaging 15.0 points this season for Pinnacle’s boys basketball team, which improved to 6-3 with the win.
ThunderRidge is among five teams from the Continental League ranked in 5A this week. (Dennis Pleuss)
The Continental League has an early grip on the Class 5A boys basketball rankings.
With changes this week, league members now own the top three spots in CHSAANow.com’s poll. A total of five Continental teams are ranked this week.
The group is led by Regis Jesuit, which continued to lead the 5A poll. ThunderRidge remained at No. 2, and Chaparral moved up one place to No. 3.
Also ranked from the Continental League are No. 9 Mountain Vista and No. 10 Rock Canyon. Additionally, Legend received votes this week.
The Centennial League has three teams ranked — No. 4 Overland, No. 5 Eaglecrest and No. 8 Cherry Creek. No other league has multiple members ranked this week.
In 4A, Valor Christian and Conifer had both joined.
The Eagles joined at No. 8 following a 77-59 win over then-No. 3 Pueblo Central on Friday. The Lobos, meanwhile, are No. 10 after starting the season 8-0.
Elsewhere in 4A, Air Academy moved up two spots from No. 5 to No. 3, and Pueblo South jumped from ninth to fourth. Palmer Ridge, 6-0 this season, rounds out the top five after moving up from No. 8.
Longmont retained its perch on top of the 4A poll.
The three other No. 1 teams also stayed the same this week: Colorado Springs Christian (3A), Sanford (2A) and Sangre de Cristo (1A).
The rankings, voted upon by coaches and select media members, are the official polls of the Association. Polls are released each Monday.
Troy Green (24) and Montbello are ranked No. 8 in Class 5A this week. (Dennis Pleuss)
Montbello and Mountain Vista have joined this week’s boys basketball rankings in Class 5A.
The Warriors are No. 8 in CHSAANow.com’s rankings this week, while the Golden Eagles are No. 9. Both teams are 5-1.
That wasn’t the only change. Top-ranked Regis Jesuit and No. 2 ThunderRidge stayed put, but Overland moved up to No. 3 after a solid showing at an out-of-state tournament.
Chaparral moved into the top-5 following a big win over then-No. 3 Eaglecrest on Friday. Chaparral is No. 4 this week, Eaglecrest is No. 5.
Cherry Creek bumped up three places to No. 6, Dakota Ridge also moved up to No. 8 and Rock Canyon remained ranked at No. 10.
In 4A, the changes continued. Pueblo Central spear-headed the movement with its jump to No. 3 this week, while Mead (No. 6), Palmer Ridge (No. 8) and Evergreen (No. 10) are all newcomers.
Colorado Springs Christian (3A) and Sanford (2A) both stayed put atop their respective rankings this week.
In 1A, top-ranked McClave lost to unranked Wiley last week. As a result, McClave dropped to No. 6 and Wiley is No. 10 in this week’s poll.
It also left a gap at the top, where Sangre de Cristo is now the No. 1 team. But voters were split, as a total of six teams received first-place votes this week.
Arickaree/Woodlin (No. 8) also joined the 1A poll.
The rankings, voted upon by coaches and select media members, are the official polls of the Association. Polls are released each Monday.

Regis Jesuit is the new No. 1 team in Class 5A boys basketball. (Jack Eberhard/JacksActionShots.com)
After last week’s big win, it was assumed that Regis Jesuit boys basketball would take over the top spot in Class 5A. Monday, the Raiders officially moved up.
Regis Jesuit received 15 of the 16 first-place votes in CHSAANow.com’s poll this week, and had 159 overall points. This came on the heels of a 3-0 week to open the season, which included a win over preseason No. 1 Overland.
But Regis was far from the only mover. ThunderRidge also started its season 3-0, and has jumped from preseason No. 5 to No. 2 this week. The 5A poll also added four new teams: No. 7 Aurora Central, No. 8 Dakota Ridge, No. 9 Cherry Creek and No. 10 Rock Canyon.
Things changed in 4A, too. Longmont stayed put as the No. 1 team, but there are three new teams — led by No. 2 Golden, which had an impressive opening week, including wins over Vista PEAK and then-No. 6 D’Evelyn. Also joining are No. 6 Pueblo Central and No. 8 Air Academy.
In 3A, there’s another new No. 1 team. Colorado Springs Christian assumes the top spot there after Colorado Academy lost to Fossil Ridge’s JV team last week.
New to the 3A poll are Alamosa (No. 8) and Manitou Springs (No. 9).
The No. 1 teams stayed put in both 2A (Sanford) and 1A (McClave).
The rankings, voted upon by coaches and select media members, are the official polls of the Association. Polls are released each Monday.

Austin Conway and Overland are the preseason No. 1 team in 5A boys basketball. (Pam Wagner).
Overland, a final four team a season ago, is the preseason No. 1 pick in Class 5A boys basketball.
The Trailblazers return a talented roster, as well as three of their four leading scorers from 2013-14. Included are senior Division I commits Austin Conway (Wyoming) and Ryan Swan (Air Force), as well as top 2016 national recruit De’Ron Davis.
Overland got 10 first-place votes, and had 151 total points.
Regis Jesuit is No. 2 in CHSAANow.com’s 5A poll, while defending champion Denver East begins at No. 3. Eaglecrest is fourth, and ThunderRidge rounds out the top 5.
Also ranked in the preseason is No. 6 Chaparral, No. 7 Abraham Lincoln, No. 8 Arvada West, No. 9 Rangeview and No. 10 Mountain Vista.
Elsewhere, Sanford is the lone defending champion to open up as a preseason No. 1 team. It heads the 2A poll.
Reflecing the uncertainty of the 4A this year, eight different teams received first-place votes in that classification’s preseason ranking.
Longmont got five of those votes, and leads the 4A poll as preseason No. 1. Pueblo South also got five first-place votes, and is No. 2.
Lewis-Palmer is third, Thomas Jefferson is fourth and Valor Christian rounds out the top five. Defending champion Pueblo East is No. 9 in the preseason. Holy Family, last season’s 3A champion which moved up to 4A this year, is No. 8.
In 3A, Colorado Academy leads the way. The Mustangs, runner-up last season, received seven of the 11 first-place votes.
1A’s preseason poll is led by McClave. Defending champion Hi-Plains is No. 3.
The rankings, voted upon by coaches and select media members, are the official polls of the Association. Polls are released each Monday.

The 2014 all-state girls soccer teams honor the best players in the sport as judged by the leagues and coaches. They are presented by CHSAANow.com, ColoradoPreps.com and MaxPreps.
These teams were created following a lengthy process which included nominations from leagues and coaches, and then a vote of coaches.
Players of the year were also selected by a vote of the coaches.
